Summary
EGR 314 challenges teams to create an interactive S.T.E.M. exhibit to teach K-12 students about a topic of the teams’ choosing. This team project tests middle-schoolers’ periodic table knowledge with the Element Sorter — a gamified, colorblind-friendly sorting machine that differentiates between a total of twenty-four metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. The device prompts users to sort the displayed elements into various bins representing the aforementioned categories using an interactive selection interface. The device also features an RGB color sensor and a wireless server to function autonomously (after a brief period of inactivity) or over an internet connection as desired.
