Summary
L&H Industrial, a global leader in heavy machinery design, manufacturing and maintenance, recently acquired a Vertical Turning Lathe capable of cutting gears up to 40 feet in diameter. However, they lack a tool attachment that would enable them to cut large helical gears. Without this attachment, L&H cannot fully utilize the machine to safely and accurately cut helical gears at precise angles. Few companies can manufacture helical gears at this scale, and none in the U.S. Team 17 is designing an attachment with gears and driveshafts to transmit power from the machine to L&H’s proprietary cutting tool.
